Efficacy of BluOxy Disinfectant against Swine Influenza (H1N1) Recent laboratory tests conducted by the Research Institute at Department of Veterinary Services in Ipoh, Perak and Department of Veterinary Services in Putrajaya have proven that BluOxy is an effective agent against Swine Influenza Virus (H1N1) based on the following tests and findings:
The H1N1 virus was propagated in chicken embyronated eggs and the virus titer was determined by Hemaaglutination test. BluOxy of two different dilutions were used in the study. A ‘carrier’ dilution method was used to evaluate the effect of surface disinfectant whereby stainless steel penicylinders have been immersed in H1N1 virus pool suspension are incubated and subsequently immersed in BluOxy solution for 5 minutes. Test results showed that BluOxy has effectively eliminated the H1N1 virus.
Viral RNA was extracted from infected allantoic fluid and treated with 2% and 5% concentration of BluOxy. Test results proved that the H1N1 virus was completely destroyed by BluOxy.

FluBug: Tamiflu is said to be effective if taken within 48 hours of contracting H1N1. But it sometimes takes more than 48 hours to get test results to confirm H1N1. I heard on the radio that the majority of the deaths were from delayed treatment. What is to be done here?
Dr Ismail: We have stressed that anti-virals like Tamiflu should be given to those with co-morbid conditions, those with high fever persisting more than two days. For those who do not fall into the above category, they may still be treated if they have serious symptoms. We let the attending doctor use his professional judgment for the latter group. There is no need to wait for the test before getting the Tamiflu if you fall into the two groups.
